Newcastle United learn of TV decision for Manchester United trip amid Cristiano Ronaldo fanfare

Newcastle United's next Premier League fixture has been the subject of speculation regarding a change of kick-off times in order to have it broadcast on television.

Saturday's trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United is set for a Saturday 3pm kick-off - which falls under the UK television blackout laws. However, the prospect of the match seeing Cristiano Ronaldo make his second Red Devils debut has meant that TV broadcasters were considering the option of switching the kick-off time in order to show the game live to the widest possible audience.

It has now been decided that it would be too short notice to make such a change and instead the game will remain in its 3pm slot. Sky Sports will show the game in full on their Game of the Day programme.

However, there has been a switch in terms of radio broadcast as BBC 5Live have made the decision to base their show around the Magpies visit to Old Trafford instead of Leicester's game against Manchester City as was originally planned.

Although much of the hype and expectation of the game will surround Ronaldo's return to the Premier League after 12 years away, Steve Bruce's side will look to frustrate and ruin the occasion. The Magpies have struggled at this early stage of the season, picking up only one point so far.

Ronaldo returns to Old Trafford as the top international goalscorer in history, breaking the record with late two goals against the Republic of Ireland this week, a game in which Newcastle's Jeff Hendrick played in midfield for Ireland.
