Newcastle United kids book place in FA Youth Cup quarter-finals as Elliot Anderson scores stunner

Newcastle United booked a place in the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup after a dramatic extra time victory over Watford at St James' Park.

The golden moment arrived in the last minute of extra time as teenage star Elliot Anderson crashed home a wonderful free-kick at the Gallowgate End.

United's win sets up a last eight clash with either Aston Villa or Burton Albion with the Magpies still in with a chance of winning the cup they lifted in 1985 and 1962.

But they will take each game as it comes under coach Neil Winskill with the former youth product calmly guiding the team to the quarter-finals of the prestigious tournament.

It had looked to be going smoothly when Dylan Stephenson set up Lucas de Bolle in the fifth minute to open the scoring.

Having beaten Leeds in the last round, United were not allowed to get too far ahead of themselves on Sunday.

Indeed, the Hornets levelled the game when defender Will Hall got on the scoresheet after 18 minutes.

De Bolle and Stephenson then reversed roles as the hat-trick hero from round four got in the act once again to make it 2-1 on 33 minutes.

However, they could not hold on to the lead in normal time and Watford equalised on 72 minutes through Tiago Cukur from the penalty spot.

Extra time followed and it took until the 120th minute for the tie to be decided.

Scottish whizz-kid Regan Thomson won a free-kick on the edge of the dee before Anderson slammed home.

UNITED: Thompson, Oliver, Scott, Carlyon, Barclay, Nicholson (Crossley 98), White, Miley (Thomson 105), Stephenson (Huntley 120+3), Anderson, de Bolle.

Unused subs:Stewart, Banda, Brannen, Ndiweni.
