Newcastle United interim coach Graeme Jones' five-day training plan ahead of Chelsea clash

Graeme Jones has scheduled a five-day training programme for Newcastle United players ahead of the clash with Chelsea next Saturday.

The Magpies picked up a point at Crystal Palace with a result that "stopped the rot" for United in the words of the former Luton Town boss after two consecutive defeats away to Wolverhampton Wanderers and at home to Tottenham Hotspur.

After leaving Selhurst Park with a point after just 25% possession, Newcastle now face a stiffer test against Champions League and European Super Cup winners Chelsea, who will arrive on Tyneside as table toppers.

Only Pep Guardiola has managed to put together a tactical game plan to stop Chelsea this season with the Blues bagging 23 goals and conceding a measly three in the Premier League.

Jones said: "You have to have a platform.

"That's where the work has been this week (defensively) and we need to continue with that.

"One or two things on the ball from goal kicks and what have you, we tried to implement.

"We had three days preparation so we've got five games preparation for the Champions League winners coming to St James' Park.

"I will look back at the game (at Palace) and chop it up in detail and we'll see if we can make small improvements next week.

"It takes time.

"It is about a period of work so we have a good building in period before the Chelsea game."
