Newcastle United interested in Motherwell's highly-rated midfield man

Newcastle United have an interest in Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull.

The Magpies have been linked with the Celtic target in the media today and we understand that United have checked out Turnbull on a number of occasions during last term's Scottish Premiership season.

The Scottish top-flight was cut short during the virus pandemic with Celtic awarded the title.

Turnbull played just twice last season and was just getting back to fitness after a knee problem when the campaign was abruptly ended.

The 21-year-old, who stands at 6ft 1in, was in action again during a behind closed doors friendly win for Motherwell during their pre-season preparations.

Celtic pulled out of a deal for Turnbull last season due to a concern on his medical but have again been linked.

It is believed that Steve Nickson, Newcastle's head of recruitment, liked the look of the midfielder who has worked his way up from the juniors at Fir Park.

Turnbull has bagged 15 goals in 34 appearances for the Well and is under contract until 2022.

But a £3million fee could be enough to win his services this summer.
