Newcastle United injury list in full ahead of Brentford clash

This weekend's fixture could be a crucial one for Newcastle United as the Magpies face one of the sides they would dearly love to catch in the Premier League table.

An excellent run of recent form, including victories against Leeds United, Everton and Aston Villa before picking up an away draw against West Ham have taken Eddie Howe 's side out of the bottom three and Brentford sit just two points ahead, having played two more matches.

With that in mind, a win over the Bees could lift Newcastle further away from danger and pull Brentford back into serious danger.

However, the Magpies will have to do this with a growing injury list.

Chronicle Live has the details of all the players ruled out or doubtful:

Javier Manquillo

The Spanish full back was missing with a foot injury. He was unavailable against West Ham but isn't expected to be out for the long-term so could return for the next fixture. He was pictured back in training this week and Eddie Howe has delivered an update on his condition in his pre-match press conference.

He said: "Manquillo came through a couple of training sessions this week. I wouldn't say he's 100 per cent fit but he's certainly getting closer to being fit and available."

Matt Ritchie

Ritchie picked up a knee injury striking a ball and is said to be 'closer' according to Howe but won't be ready in time for Brentford.

Allan Saint-Maximin

The mercurial winger was missing against West Ham after damaging his calf following a kick in the win against Aston Villa.

However, Saint-Maximim could return for the trip to west London and Howe is hopeful that he will be fit.

He said: "We're going to make a late call on him - he's been away getting intensive treatment. We said when he suffered the injury, it wouldn't be long-term so we're keeping our fingers crossed on him."

Ryan Fraser

Fraser came off injured in the 1-1 draw at the London Stadium, but is expected to be available despite missing training towards the start of the week.

Howe said: "Ryan Fraser missed the early part of training but has done a couple of days as the week's progressed, so we expect him to be fit."

Issac Hayden

There is still no return date for the defensive midfielder who has been out of action since January.

Kieran Trippier

The loss of Trippier to a broken foot is a huge blow for Howe's side and the manager revealed they hoped to have him back in the latter games of the season after he had surgery last week.

Callum Wilson

Another who has no return date in sight after a serious calf injury sustained against Manchester United.

Howe's last update mentioned 'slow progress.'

Jamal Lewis

Lewis is ruled out with a long-term groin injury.
