Steve Bruce says that Matt Ritchie and Isaac Hayden are still in with a chance of facing Manchester City in the FA Cup.
The duo picked up soft tissue injuries in the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa at St James' Park on Wednesday night.
Both retired early but are hoping to play their part in the FA Cup clash with the holders.
Bruce said: "We will see how they are today.
"Yesterday was a recovery session.
"We would have been kidding ourselves if we did not think we'd pick up soft tissue injuries.
"We will see how they are in the next 48 hours."
United will also run checks on Matty and Sean Longstaff in the build-up to the game.
Bruce spoke about the packed schedule and said: "We have one or two knocks and niggles.
"But on the quiet, we've done OK."
