Newcastle United injury latest as key player assessed ahead of Watford clash

Newcastle United playmaker Miguel Almiron is touch-and-go for the trip to Watford.

Steve Bruce must weigh up whether to aggravate the muscle injury which ruled him out of the 5-0 defeat at Manchester City.

Allan Saint-Maximin also wasn't risked for the clash in the North West and will be assessed in training.

When asked for an updated status on the pair, Bruce said: "We will see. Miggy has been playing with a thigh injury to be fair for him for a week or so.

"We will just work with it. We are mindful of the fact that most of things we have are soft tissue injuries.

"Added to that we have Isaac Hayden and Sean Longstaff, it's too many.

"But as I said I don't want to use it as an excuse."

United were forced to field full-back Emil Krafth in the heart of defence at City with skipper Jamaal Lascelles out with an ankle injury.

Bruce added: "We are down to the bare bones, even with the centre-backs, Ciaran Clark and Jamaal Lascelles are missing and Paul Dummett is not available.

"It's been difficult but when you are missing seven are eight I expect that.

"But I also expect us to be better at what we showed.

"If you get beat and get beat with your boots on we all accept it.

"Man City were far too good for us in every department but as I say sometimes it is the manner that upsets me."
