Newcastle United injury blow confirmed ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

Newcastle United have been dealt an injury setback ahead of Friday's 8pm clash with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

Reds boss Steve Cooper will be hoping to keep their impressive home form going while they are struggling so badly away from headquarters.

Forest have won just once on their travels this season, but home form that includes a famous win over Liverpool and draws against Chelsea and Manchester City has kept them out of the Premier League bottom three.

They will be aiming to claim another famous scalp when they host Newcastle having not lost a home league game since September. And their hopes have been boosted by the news that Antony Gordon will the City Ground clash.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe told reporters after his sides 2-1 over Wolves on Sunday: "It was a strange one because after the game (at Man City) there was no sign of an injury.

"It's one of those that got worse on the day of the game, it was from a tackle, and when he came it, it was swollen up. He had a scan and we were hoping we could get away with it and he would be alright, but unfortunately not.

"He'll probably miss two games (including the win over Wolves), and I'm not sure whether he'll be back after the international break. We hope so, but that's not 100 per cent certain."
