Newcastle United injury and suspension update as Magpies could have double boost ahead of weekend

Newcastle United will be hoping they can build on their first win of the season when they travel to Leicester City on Sunday.

The Magpies were victorious in the Premier League at the 15 th attempt as Callum Wilson’s first half goal ensured a 1-0 win over fellow relegation threatened side Burnley.

Their first three-point haul of the season was enough to lift Eddie Howe’s side off the bottom of the table, who has picked up four points from his three games in charge.

But while Newcastle will be buoyed from their first win, Sunday’s trip to the Foxes is the start of an extremely tough run of fixtures.

Clashes with Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United are to follow over the Christmas period.

With that in mind, here is a look at the state of Newcastle’s treatment room ahead of the next run of games.

Ciaran Clark – suspension

Centre back Ciaran Clark will be available for selection once again after serving a one match ban for the game against Burnley.

Clark was sent off in the first ten minutes of the 1-1 draw with Norwich City last week for a professional foul.

Potential return date: 12/12/21

Ryan Fraser – hamstring

Newcastle will continue to assess the injury of Ryan Fraser after he missed the 1-0 win over Burnley due to a minor hamstring injury.

As revealed by the Chronicle, though, if he gets through a week’s assessment and training, he is expected to be named in the squad for the clash with Leicester.

Potential return date: 12/12/21

Paul Dummett – calf/shin/heel

Defender Paul Dummett is still yet to feature at all this season as he continues to recover from an injury.

Dummett is still someway off returning to match action, however he is starting to make progress in his quest to making a comeback.

What Howe has said (Dec 3): “He’s not close at the moment. He is back on the grass with the physios. He still has quite a bit to go through, but positive signs.”

Potential return date: Unknown
