Newcastle United in training - Steve Bruce set to welcome back three first team members

Steve Bruce watched on from the touchline as Newcastle United players took part in a competitive training game ahead of the weekend's clash with Crystal Palace.

Bruce has been left with only one option in the striker department - Joelinton - since the 1-1 draw with Wolves on January 11.

But the head coach would have been pleased to see Dwight Gayle and Yoshinori Muto come through another training session.

The pair were in contention for last Sunday's game with Arsenal but that clash - which ended 4-0 to the Gunners - came too early for the duo. After undergoing late assessments, neither were given the green light to travel.

But the hope will be that both players will travel to the capital to face Crystal Palace on Saturday, and finally present Bruce with some options up-front.

Gayle impressed against Wolves, albeit before succumbing to injury in the 28th minute, and Bruce may well be tempted to re-jig his side to try the system again in the hope it brings Joelinton some joy.

Right-back Javier Manquillo was also back in training while news is still to come on just how serious Ciaran Clark's injury is.
