Newcastle United in the hunt to sign 6ft 3in Brazilian striker

Newcastle United are interested in signing Brazilian striker Wesley Moraes.

Sources in Belgium have suggested that the 22-year-old has been looked at on multiple occasions by the Magpies during their European talent spotting missions this season.

Moraes has scored 17 goals and contributed 10 assists this season for Club Brugge.

United are in a battle with West Ham and newly-crowned Italian Cup winners Lazio to secure his services.

The 6ft 3in star graduated from Itabuna's youth system in Brazil before moving on to play for AS Trenčín in the Slovakian League.

Brugge handed him his chance and this season he has attracted interest from Spain, Italy and Germany - as well as the Premier League.

When asked about his future, Moreas said: "I do not know yet, I have a preference for the Premier League, but we'll see what happens, I have to give it a go."

But he will definitely quite Club Brugge this season and said: "I'm really sad to leave, that's why I cried.

"It's been three years since I was in Brugge, a great club that made me grow and progress, a club with whom I discovered the Champions League and scored important goals, and now I'm going to meet a new challenge."
