Newcastle United hot prospect Elliot Anderson hands youngsters FA Youth Cup boost

Newcastle United youngster Elliot Anderson has underlined his excellent attitude by requesting to play in the FA Youth Cup tonight.

Despite being a regular at the club's senior training ground and signing a new six-year contract, Anderson was eager to help his Academy colleagues get through to the next round of the prestigious competition.

United have not won the Youth Cup since 1985 during the days of Paul Gascoigne at St James' Park, but Anderson wasn't afraid to put his hand up and get involved.

Newcastle take on Huddersfield Town (6.30pm) away from home with coach Neil Winskill impressed by Anderson's approach to life.

He told nufc.co.uk: "Over the last six months, he's really kicked on and is the role model for the group now in terms of what's possible.

"And he's back tonight, playing with his mates, playing with the group that he's been with since he was nine, ten years old.

"I know he's been desperate to play in it and he's really looking forward to it.

"It'll be a big boost to the lads to have him back - like getting the old gang back together. He's a really talented lad and he's popular amongst the group as well.

"We've been to a lot of tournaments in the past where he's been a key figure.

"Other than that, we're at practically full strength, so we've got a big squad to pick from."
