Newcastle United hope to have Matt Ritchie back in action by December after successful operation

Newcastle United have confirmed that Matt Ritchie is out until December.

The winger had undergone an operation to his shoulder after leaving the field against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday in the 1-1 draw in the capital.

Ritchie will now start rehab and look to be back before the turn of the year for Premier League duty and the League Cup quarter-final clash with Brentford.

A statement from United read: "Matt Ritchie has undergone a successful operation on the injury he suffered in the second half of last weekend's draw at Tottenham Hotspur.

"The 31-year-old had surgery on his acromioclavicular joint (AC joint) in London on Friday.

"Following the operation, the player is now likely to be sidelined for around two months."

Ritchie spent a large chunk of last season on the sidelines with ankle damage.

The winger had just won his place back in the starting line-up but now faces a tough two months in the treatment room.
