Newcastle United headlines: Season ticket frenzy, leaked training kit and Eddie Howe defence

Your Newcastle United headlines for Wednesday, June 22.

Toon ticket frenzy

Newcastle fans crashed nufc.co.uk following the announcement that season tickets will go on sale next week. Those who purchased a matchday ticket, season ticket or membership after July 1, 2019, have earned priority and tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis.

ChronicleLive understands around 1,000 will go on sale, evoking memories from the Kevin Keegan era when supporters had to join a waiting list to attain a season ticket. After confiding with the NUFC Trust, the club devised a plan to make the process as fair as possible.

The first game of the new season kicks off at St James’ Park on August 6 against Nottingham Forest.

Leaked training kit

An image has been circulating on social media of a leaked training kit for next season. Castore promised “bespoke” designs after becoming Newcastle’s official supplier last year and supporters are already drooling over the proposed shirt.

The Tyne Bridge, Millennium Bridge and Theatre Royal all feature on the light blue shirt, which is yet to be confirmed by the club. Template shirts that bear striking resemblance to rival clubs’ kits appear to be a thing of the past - a promise by the British manufacturer.

‘Unfair’ to criticise Howe

Simon Jordan believes it is “unfair” to condemn Eddie Howe for refusing to be drawn into discussion over the Magpies’ Saudi-backed ownership. The Toon boss received backlash in March after a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea when he deflected questions concerning Newcastle’s controversial ownership model.

Former Crystal Palace owner Jordan got into a heated row with co-presenter Jim White on whether the treatment of Howe was justified. “I do think it's right that questions are asked,” he told talkSPORT.

“I don't think it's right how people like you (White) rock up and grill Eddie Howe, a manager of a football club at a difficult time, because he's a football manager working within the confines of an environment.”
