Newcastle United headlines: Callum Wilson accepts goalscoring blame and fans urge Sven Botman stay

Your Newcastle United headlines for Thursday, March 9.

Wilson accepts blame

Newcastle United forward Callum Wilson says he has taken 'full responsibility' for his barren goalscoring run but he is refusing to let negativity affect him.

He told the Footballer’s Football podcast: “We had chances (against Manchester City) but it's the same again each week. We keep saying ‘we had chances, we had chances.’

“I'm obviously partly to blame for that because I'm a striker and I take responsibility. Full responsibility. I never shy away from owning up and taking accountability. I need to fix up in front of goal. You’re never going to go through a season of missing chances because, when you're a goalscorer, you score goals no matter what.

“You just have to keep believing in yourself and don't let any self-doubt creep in. Let everybody from the outside do their talking. I hear there's a lot of noise and negativity and stuff but you've got to use that as motivation. Let people do their talking and you do your talking on a pitch.”

Wolves confidence brimming

Wolves star Adama Traore says confidence is brimming ahead of his side's visit to St James' Park this weekend.

The explosive winger secured three points for Wanderers in their last game against Tottenham to set them up for their Sunday clash on Tyneside. Wolves have climbed from rock bottom in the table to the coat-tails of the top 10 in the Premier League under the guidance of Julen Lopetegui.

Traore, who scored the winner against Spurs last weekend, said: "I believe in the plan of the gaffer. The result gives us happiness to go to the next game, but we know every game is a tough game in the Premier League.

"We’re happy today and when the gaffer starts working we think of the next game."

Arteta on Tierney talks

Mikel Arteta has revealed talks have taken place between himself and Kieran Tierney about his Arsenal future. Reports in recent weeks have linked Newcastle United with a move for the Scotland international.

Speaking to reporters at his pre-Sporting Libson press conference, Arteta admitted discussions had taken place about Tierney's future. The Spaniard said: "(It was) very good because we talked and discussed the situation. We had a very similar opinion about that.

"He knows his role. Under me, he’s played a lot. More than any other player probably compared to the previous players at the club in the last three years. He understands the situation and he needs to challenge the situation."

Fans urge Botman stay

Toon supporters have told Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain to keep 'dreaming' after rumours began to swirl around a potential swoop in for Magpies central defender Sven Botman.

The 23-year-old has been vital to Eddie Howe's side this season, having joined in last summer's transfer window, and has started all but two Premier League matches this season alongside Fabian Schar.

However, reports have claimed that PSG are just one of many clubs that hold interest in the star after their own centre-back Presnel Kimpembe suffered another Achilles injury last week.

Many Toon fans took to social media to discuss the rumours though, with some claiming the Ligue 1 champions were 'dreaming' while others pointed out that they could've signed him while he played against them for Lille before he moved to St. James' Park.
