Newcastle United have two League One teams standing in their way of the FA Cup fifth round

Newcastle United have been handed a great chance to reach the last 16 of the FA Cup after being drawn at home to Oxford United IF they beat Rochdale.

The Magpies have never made it past the fourth round of the competition during the Mike Ashley era but now have two League One sides standing in their way of the fifth round.

Fans will be always be cautious when it comes to Newcastle's approach to the cup, but a clutch of Premier League teams could have also exited the competition by the last 16 stage - and United's points tally may also be boosted meaning their may be no excuses to have a real go in the FA Cup.

And while Karl Robinson's Oxford will provide a stiffer test than Rochdale given they sit in fourth place in the League One table, the prospect of home advantage will get Geordie fans in the mood for the FA Cup after a stuttering draw at Spotland on Saturday.

Steve Bruce has vowed to play full strength sides in the competition and should have a host of senior stars back in time for fourth round day.

Oxford beat Hartlepool United 4-1 on third round day.

Speaking about his team's style of play after that win Robinson said: "We'll deny space, not make things easy and it was always going to be the case - but it was about discipline.

"We have identity now, a style that some may criticise, but we stuck to it which was the pleasing thing."
