Newcastle United handed relegation favour as Fulham beaten at Craven Cottage

Newcastle United got the result they were looking for from Craven Cottage as Manchester City ran riot in the Premier League.

After holding Man City in the first half, Fulham collapsed after the break as goals flowed from John Stones, Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero (pen) secured a strong away victory.

The result not only keeps Scott Parker's side in the bottom three but also dents their goal difference and Newcastle now have a game in hand.

On another nervy day in the top-flight, Newcastle fans watched on as Burnley picked up a valuable 2-1 win away to Everton to move five points clear of Steve Bruce's side.

Earlier in the day Crystal Palace nudged up to 37 points after beating doomed West Brom meaning there is a 10-point gap between Newcastle and the Baggies.

United have a two-point cushion over Fulham and attention now switches to the South Coast on Sunday as Brighton travel to Southampton.

Only a win for Graham Potter's side would see United slip down a place into 17th.
