Newcastle United handed double injury boost ahead of Crystal Palace clash

Newcastle United could welcome back Miguel Almiron and Jonjo Shelvey for the visit of Crystal Palace tomorrow (Saturday).

The duo missed the 1-0 defeat against Burnley at Turf Moor last weekend with thigh and calf injuries respectively, but both have been back in training this week ahead of the game against Palace.

And Bruce has confirmed that they both have a chance of featuring against the Eagles at St James' Park, having been rated as 50-50 earlier in the week.

"We think they have done enough in the gym and rehabilitation work this week to make sure they're OK," Bruce said, speaking at his pre-match press conference, as reported by Chronicle Live .

Newcastle did not want to take a risk with Almiron last weekend, after he missed the final three games of last season with a hamstring injury.

The Magpies were without eight first team players last weekend against Burnley, with Allan Saint-Maximin, Jamaal Lascelles, Matt Ritchie, Ciaran Clark, Ki Sung-Yeung and Karl Darlow also missing the match.

But while Almiron and Shelvey face late fitness tests ahead of the game against Palace, the other six players are still expected to miss the match, with no return dates as yet.
