Newcastle United handed another selection headache ahead of clash with Tottenham Hotspur

Steve Bruce will be without Danny Rose for this midweek clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

Premier League loan rules mean that the England international can't feature against his parent club and Bruce will have to rethink the left-back position.

Javier Manquillo switched to left-back against Watford but was caught daydreaming within moments of the change and conceded a penalty.

Bruce could opt for the Spanish defender again or consider playing his other penalty villain Matt Ritchie in a similar position to the one he held during Newcastle's five-man defence days.

Bruce has no such problems at right-back with DeAndre Yedlin and Emil Krafth vying for a place.

It means Rose will be back for the last two matches of his loan spell on Tyneside away to Brighton then at home to Liverpool.

Bruce is keen to sign the 30-year-old for next season.

He said: "I still think we have not seen the best of him and I still think there's more to come from Danny.

"What we have to be respectful about is he's one of Tottenham's players.

"Let's see where it takes us, we will have those conversations."
