Newcastle United hand trial to Everton teenage centre-back

Newcastle United are taking a look at Everton teenager Dylan Thompson.

The 18-year-old played in the 4-0 defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Aggborough on Monday afternoon.

Thompson, a centre-back, has previously played for Blackpool and Manchester United but has been on Everton's books since the age of 12.

Everton describe him as an "assured, ball playing" defender but the teenager is looking for a new club.

This season he has played six times for the Under-18s and once for the Under-23s with the Toffees.

United are looking for new blood for their Academy and Under-23 sides for next season with several players expected to leave at the end of the current campaign.

Newcastle have already signed Matty Bondswell from RB Leipzig with the full-back making his debut at Wolves.

It is understood that Steve Harper has been looking after the Academy after Joe Joyce stepped down from his position, however, United are not commenting on the change.

Despite the 4-0 defeat against Wolves, there was better news yesterday as Elliot Anderson's extra time winner earned a 3-2 victory for the Under-18s in the FA Youth Cup.
