Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman to secure loan return to Swansea City

Freddie Woodman is set to re-join Swansea City on a season-long loan deal from Newcastle United, WalesOnline understands.

The goalkeeper excelled under Steve Cooper during the course of the 2019/20 campaign, featuring 43 times in the Championship and keeping 12 clean sheets.

Prior to the end of his initial loan spell from Newcastle United, Woodman admitted he was keen to extend his stay with the Swans.

Cooper and Newcastle boss Steve Bruce both publicly stated their wish for the loan move to be repeated.

And with just under a month to go until the 2020/21 campaign gets underway, Woodman is poised to secure a second loan move from Newcastle to the Liberty Stadium.

The goalkeeper has one year left to run on his current deal with the Magpies, although it's understood he will sign a contract extension before completing a season-long loan move to South Wales.

It comes as Swansea expect to add former Bristol City midfielder Korey Smith to their ranks.
