Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman 'keen' to extend loan at Swansea City

Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman is 'keen' to extend his loan at Swansea City.

That's according to the Swans' boss Steve Cooper, who has expressed his desire to agree a new deal for the 23-year-old at the Liberty Stadium.

The former England under-21 goalkeeper has established himself as the number one at the Championship club and has kept 12 clean sheets so far this season.

Steve Bruce recently discussed his intention to sit down with Woodman at the end of the campaign to "review" his future on Tyneside. Martin Dubravka remains the Magpies' undisputed number one, while Mark Gillespie has recently signed to provide competition alongside Karl Darlow.

Woodman is one of six loanees at Swansea this season and is currently sidelined with injury. However, Cooper has outlined his hope to continue working with the shot-stopper next season.

Cooper told Wales Online : "I think Freddie will be holidaying in Swansea for the next 30 or 40 years. He loves it down here. I’ve said it before and he’s said it. He’d love to be here next year, I’d love to have him here.

"I know he’s not one of our own but it certainly feels like it because of how connected to the club he is.

"He’s performed really well, and I think we’ve been good for him as well. We’ve back him all the way through the season.

"In terms of goalkeeping, I'd love nothing more than Freddie to be with us next season. If that can happen, which is very possible then I think we’ll all continue to benefit from that, especially the football club.

"Steve Bruce has said he needs to go back out on loan. Freddie is keen to stay, he’s made that noise. I’m happy to say I want to keep him. Let’s just see if we can put the jigsaw together and see him again."
