Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman approached by two Championship clubs

Two Championship clubs are trying to sign Freddie Woodman in time for the weekend's big kick off in the EFL.

Woodman has been involved in Newcastle United's pre-season and has made two appearances so far, but he is eager to head out on loan in order to pick up vital first team experience.

The Magpies blocked Woodman's request to go out on loan last season after he opted against signing a paltry contract offer.

He is out of contract at the end of this season and is likely to consider his options, and there is solid interest from Arsenal and Celtic.

For now Woodman's aim is to be loaned out this week and United have a big decision to make in the next 48 hours.

Newcastle are taking a close look at former Bolton Wanderers youngster Jake Turner with the Wilmslow stopper out of contract.

Steve Bruce has already confirmed that Karl Darlow will play at Hibernian while the Toon head coach stated Martin Dubravka was merely being rested - despite increased talk that Paris St-Germain are keen on signing him up this summer.

Speaking about his future earlier this month, Woodman said: "It’s difficult for me to say.

"I’ve got a year left on my contract. It’s an awkward situation.

"I just want to keep getting games and minutes and learn as much as I can."
