Newcastle United forward Yoshinori Muto helps create incredible La Liga moment

Newcastle United forward Yoshinori Muto helped lowly Eibar hit global headlines on Thursday evening.

The Japanese international forward joined the La Liga outfit on a season-long loan deal from the Magpies in the summer transfer window.

His stay at the Ipurua Municipal Stadium had been somewhat understated up until now, with the 28-year-old registering three goals in 14 appearances so far this season.

However, he helped Los Armeros hit the headlines in La Liga on Thursday evening, during their clash with La Liga league leaders Atletico Madrid, by winning the penalty that was incredibly scored by Eibar GOALKEEPER Marko Dmitrović.

Muto was bundled over in the penalty area by Atleti winger Yannick Carrasco and, incredibly, Dmitrović stepped up.

The 28-year-old brilliantly slotted past one of the world's most revered goalkeepers in Jan Oblak to hand Eibar a shock lead against Diego Simeone's table-toppers.

He became just the seventh goalkeeper in La Liga history to score in Spanish football's top flight but the lead was short-lived as former Liverpool and Barcelona forward Luis Suarez equalised for the visitors before half-time.

Muto joined Newcastle for £9.5million in the summer of 2018 from Bundesliga outfit Mainz.

He struggled for game-time and made just 28 appearances, largely from the bench, across two seasons, scoring two goals.
