Newcastle United forward Miguel Almiron issues message to football fans amid coronavirus outbreak

'Stay at home' - this is the simple message Newcastle United forward Miguel Almiron has issued to football fans amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The former record signing's statement was shared by Paraguay's official account as the world continues to adapt to the pandemic.

Almiron's message comes on the same day the coronavirus death toll in the UK rose to 71, and UEFA confirmed the European Championships would be delayed until 2021.

South American footballing body CONMEBOL followed suit and confirmed Copa America would be delayed until next year.

Following another day of cancellations in sport, Paraguay took to social media to share Almiron's message which reads 'Quedate en case' - translating to stay at home.

The post has been shared more than 120 times, and 'liked' almost 550 times.

Outside of sport, NHS England took the step to postpone all non-urgent operations for a minimum of three months.

Aside from weddings and funerals, all Church of England services have also been suspended.
