Newcastle United fans send strong message to owners as Norwich City unveil new badge

Newcastle United fans have warned new owners that the strong majority of fans would not be supportive of a 'rebrand' and changing of their club badge.

Norwich City's recent club badge change means the Magpies currently have the oldest badge in the Premier League which was created in 1988.

A vast majority of clubs have changed their badge to try and improve their marketability across the club and create more appealing brand.

While there have been no suggestion of a new club badge even crossing their mind, we asked supporters in the summer what they would make of a badge change.

Out of 4,800 responses a resounding 81.2% of fans voted against a badge change, while 12.2% were up for a change.

The remaining 6.6% of fans were unsure.

The current club crest became synonymous with the Entertainers era in the mid-nineties and includes many elements of the city’s Coat of Arms - the supporting seahorses, castle, demi lion and an amended pennon.

Newcastle did celebrate their 125th anniversary with a special commemorative crest in the 2017/18 season.

The gold and silver design was based on the Magpies’ current crest but there was a slight colour change and a golden adornment added to celebrate the milestone.
