Newcastle United fans send Mike Ashley transfer messages on failed signings and sales

Newcastle United fans have sent owner Mike Ashley a clear message on their views of the current squad with the majority of fans saying their side is in a weaker position than it was last season.

The Magpies brought in just one new face this summer with Joe Willock arriving from Arsenal for a reported fee of £25million plus add-ons.

Steve Bruce had reiterated his desire to sign more players on loan towards the end of the window, but the club were unable to bring in any new faces.

Out of 1,055 responses, 75% of those believe the squad is weaker than last season.

The Magpies were able to bring in their main target in Willock this summer, but lost the likes of Andy Carroll, Florian Lejeune, Christian Atsu, Yoshinori Muto and Henri Saivet.

Out of the 1,063 responses, a resounding 97% of fans said they were unhappy with the transfer window as a whole.

Newcastle were linked with a whole host of names this summer, including Ross Barkley, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Hamza Choudhury and Boubacar Kamara.

It's no surprise to see Magpies fans name those players as those they would have most liked to see in a black and white shirt this season.

Chelsea midfielder Barkley is top of the players that fans would have liked to see come through the door at St James' Park - 201 responses out of 717 who were asked said they wanted to see the club sign Barkley.

One positive from this summer, if there any, is that the club were able to trim their wage bill with the departure of the aforementioned fringe players.

However, Toon fans have named the players they think the club should have cashed in on prior to the window closing.

Jeff Hendrick, Jonjo Shelvey and Emil Krafth were the most selected players that fans think the club should have sold this summer.
