Newcastle United fans send message to Steve Bruce after Elliot Anderson cameo against Arsenal

Newcastle United fans bemoaned another cup exit as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal after extra-time in the FA Cup.

With the game heading for penalties, late goals from Emile Smith Rowe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave Arsenal victory as the Magpies failed to convert their chances.

It was a poor game of football but one positive was Elliot Anderson's debut from the bench.

The 18-year-old looked bright as he replaced a disappointing Joelinton with nine minutes left in normal time.

His performance left Magpies fans keen to see more from the youngster in future matches.

Anderson's performance may well strengthen Championship interest in him this month.

There is strong interest from a number of second-tier clubs over a potential January loan deal, with manager Steve Bruce coy on whether the player will stay or not.

He said earlier in the week: "We'll see. But we are very hopeful that the boy has a smashing career ahead of him."

Bruce has previously said that Anderson is a 'talented boy' who had given the club 'something to be excited about'.

Despite the promising performance from Anderson, however, the defeat confirms another trophy-less season for the Magpies.

The Magpies now face a huge game against Sheffield United on Tuesday evening as they bid to stave off any relegation fears.

Steve Bruce's side will have to improve in front of goal, with another goalless performance meaning it is now just one goal in eight hours of football for the Magpies.

In contrast, the Blades recorded their first win of the season this afternoon, running out 3-2 winners over Bristol Rovers.
