Newcastle United fans send January signings message to Ralph Hasenhuttl after Southampton win

Newcastle United fans could not hide their delight after two January signings scored in the victory over Ralph Hasenhuttl's Southampton. Bruno Guimaraes and Chris Wood both scored their first goals for the Magpies in the 2-1 victory at St Mary's on Thursday night.

The two sides met two months later than originally scheduled after the Premier League approved Newcastle's request for postponing the meeting on January 2 due to a Covid-19 outbreak and injuries. It was a decision that attracted criticism from Hasenhuttl, who claimed the Magpies should not be allowed to field any January signings for the rearranged encounter.

Howe ultimately named four January recruits in the starting eleven, with Guimaraes making his first start in black-and-white while Dan Burn, Matt Targett and Wood all kept their place. Stuart Armstrong opened the scoring for the Saints, but this was cancelled out by a fine Wood header just seven minutes later.

Newcastle's winner came in the 52nd minute, as Targett's corner was headed back by Burn and into Guimaraes' path. The former Lyon midfielder reacted instinctively to backheel a volley past Fraser Forster, and ultimately extend the Magpies' unbeaten top-flight run to nine matches.

Here is how Newcastle United fans reacted to the latest victory and Hasenhuttl's pre-match comments.

'Can't wait for Ralph's post-match interview'

'Difficult time'

'Must be apoplectic'

'New signings won us the match'

'Ready to explode'

' That's not fair'
