Newcastle United fans react to stunning Valentino Lazaro 'scorpion kick' goal

Newcastle United supporters have been reacting to the breathtaking 'scorpion kick' goal scored by Valentino Lazaro on Sunday.

The former Magpies man - who spent the second half of the 2019/20 season on loan at St. James' Park - produced an unbelievable bit of skill and technique for Borussia Monchengladbach in their 4-3 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend.

The Austrian played at right-back and on the right-hand side of midfield under Steve Bruce, and showed glimpses of his attacking quality.

As the ball was crossed in to Lazaro, he jumped forward, whilst flicking with his backheel on the volley - similar to what we saw from Olivier Giroud for Arsenal against Crystal Palace a few years ago.

THE SAUDI MOVE THAT HAS PROVOKED NUFC TAKEOVER SPECULATION

Unfortunately for Monchengladbach, the 24-year-old's spectacular goal wasn't enough for a comeback in the Bundesliga match.

BT Sport, who showed the match live, tweeted that it could be a contender for the FIFA Puskas Award, which is the award for the best goal of the year.

Unsurprisingly, considering he couldn't secure a place in the Newcastle team, supporters have been reacting to Lazaro's strike.

Newcastle decided not to act further on Lazaro, following his loan spell on Tyneside, and he is now enjoying life in Germany by the looks of it.

The Inter Milan midfielder has made three appearances in all competitions, but after scoring for Monchengladbach against Leverkusen, he could have forced himself into Marco Rose's side.

During his time at St. James' Park, Lazaro picked up a red card in his third game - in a 1-0 defeat at Crystal Palace - and then after being available for selection again, the Austrian scored in Newcastle's 3-2 victory over West Bromwich Albion.

Lazaro also scored a few games later, in a convincing 4-1 win over Bournemouth down on the south coast.
