Former Newcastle United midfielder Kevin Nolan has been heavily criticised for what some fans have called 'ridiculous' comments while defending owner Mike Ashley on talkSPORT this morning.
Nolan appears to have changed his tune somewhat on Ashley after suggesting last month that the Sports Direct chief executive should depart St James' Park sooner rather than later for the sake of the club.
Ashley 's inability to agree terms with Rafa Benitez before he left the club as led to the deep frustration among Newcastle fans growing this summer, with the Magpies also flirting with the possibility of a takeover.
Nolan then offered up his extended take on the job that Ashley has done at Newcastle and provided praise aplenty. But the most baffling part of the interview with talkSPORT was arguably the point when he lauded Ashley for the work he has done with the ground.
"You go up there; it's a fantastic club, what he's done within the ground is fantastic," Nolan told the radio station.
