Newcastle United fans react as Steve Bruce's close to return with West Bromwich Albion

Newcastle United fans have reacted to the news that Steve Bruce is the favourite to become the next West Bromwich Albion boss after Valerian Ismail's sacking.

The Baggies are looking for a new manager following Ismail's departure and the former Newcastle coach has emerged as the leading candidate to join the West Midlands club.

It has been reported that Albion are interested in bringing Bruce to the Hawthorns as they look to push for a return to the Premier League.

They currently sit fifth in the Championship but have won just one of their last 11 matches which has seen them drop out of the automatic promotion places and within a point of falling down to eighth.

Bruce could be the man to guide the Baggies to a positive end to the season and it would actually be his first job in management since leaving Newcastle in October.

The Magpies faithful have delivered their verdict on the news, with the vast majority admitting that 'feel sorry' for the West Brom supporters given that he recorded just a 28% win percentage during his time at St James' Park.

Here is what some had to say on social media.

@nufcsanjay : This is good to see from a #NUFC point of view. We've been told countless times that he's a great manager and we should've been grateful for him. So Bruce getting promotion from the Championship with WBA should be a walk in the park. Right?

@JamesDixon_ : Surprised to see Bruce taking the step down to the Championship mind being as good as a manager he is you'd think he'd be at a top 10 club minimum. #NUFC

@AdamQuinnin : I thought Brucey boy wanted to retire? Already feel sorry for the WBA fans #nufc

@SteveNUFC : Steve Bruce to West Brom really feel for their supporters when their owners prefer him to takeover as manager. #NUFC

@Magpie24_7 : I'm so sorry west brom fans. If Steve Bruce gets the job. I will really feel for you. There's not a man more toxic and out of his depth to manage a football team.

@Ted246_ : My thoughts are with all concerned at #wba at this time. #nufc

@Tue1982 : There really isn’t anything more uninspiring than hearing Steve Bruce is close to managing your club #NUFC

@NUFCblogcouk : Our thoughts go out to West Brom fans at this extremely difficult time. #NUFC #WBA
