Newcastle United fans react after Derby County issue takeover statement

Newcastle United fans have take to social media to share their reactions after Derby County issued a statement ahead of their imminent takeover.

The EFL approved the approach by Sheikh Khaled Zayed Bin Saquer Zayed Al Nayhan, who has previously been unsuccessful in attempts to purchase Newcastle and Liverpool.

Sheikh Khaled, the cousin of Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour, has had a deal agreed in principle after discussions with Derby owner Mel Morris and the proposed takeover was discussed during an EFL board meeting on Thursday.

The club has now issued a statement on the matter, confirming that talks have been ongoing since May and stating the agreement of a deal in principle.

Completion of a deal is now expected to go ahead very soon, which will provide a huge boost to the club currently lying second-bottom of the Championship.

Meanwhile, Newcastle fans are understandably wondering what might have been after Sheikh Khaled's previous approach to take over on Tyneside.

Plenty of supporters have taken to social media to share their thoughts on the situation, with many wishing Derby well ahead of the deal's completion.

Others questioned why this deal went through so quickly, considering the lengthy delays that Newcastle fans have had to endure with their own takeover developers.

Finally, others wondered how long it would be until their club could finally share similar news, which would certainly lead to celebrations.
