Newcastle United fans name dream next manager to replace Steve Bruce after takeover

Newcastle United fans have named Antonio Conte as their dream managerial appointment in a fan vote run by the Chronicle.

Of the 20067 responses, 3965 of you selected the former Chelsea boss as the manager you would most like to replace Steve Bruce, a split of around 20 percent.

Magpies’ supporters are currently riding the wave of last week’s confirmed takeover, which saw a Saudi Arabian based consortium consisting of Amanda Staveley, the Reuben brothers, and the Public Investment Fund, complete their buyout of the club.

With that ended Mike Ashley’s controversial 14-year reign in charge at St. James’ Park and one of their first tasks is to address the uncertainty surrounding Steve Bruce’s future.

The new Newcastle owners have met with Bruce this week as his future remains in doubt ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

Conte is one of the names who has been linked with the position at Newcastle, along with the likes of Lucien Favre, Steven Gerrard, and Frank Lampard.

Gerrard is the only other of those four names to have received any votes by supporters, although he obtained just 36, the lowest of anyone who made the list.

In second behind Conte is former Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez, who received 17 per cent of the votes, although given his excellent start at his new club Everton, it is unlikely that he would move at this stage.

Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, Jose Mourinho and Diego Simeone are the next most popular choices among Magpies’ supporters, which shows the excitement currently brewing at the club.

Perhaps the most interesting name to have made the list is another former Newcastle boss in Kevin Keegan, who received 50 votes, which rather surprisingly is more than the heavily linked aforementioned Rangers manager Gerrard.
