Newcastle United fans have two clear transfer targets in mind

Newcastle United's victory over Manchester United lifted the Magpies out of the Premier League relegation zone.

But there are still clearly questions that need to be answered if United are going to secure their fourth consecutive season in the top flight.

The January transfer window is not far away, and we decided to ask supporters who would be their dream arrival at St James' Park.

We asked fans on our Newcastle United - Chronicle Facebook page who Steve Bruce should realistically look to recruit.

There were a wide range of responses, typically aimed at improving United's creativity and attacking options.

But two names were mentioned more than any others.

Josef Martinez (Atlanta United)

Andrew Wells posted: "Martinez from Atlanta might be the thing Miggy needs for his confidence. He knows his style of play already."

Lee Walker wrote: "Martinez from Atlanta hopefully gets something good out of Miggy."

Benjamin Hindmoor commented: "Martinez from Atlanta or Foden would be great shouts!"

Paul Thomas added: "Josef Martinez is an absolute beast and in my opinion is not even close to being a gamble."

Jarrod Bowen (Hull City)

Lee Birbeck commented: "Bowen from Hull is worth a risk, or Karlan Grant from Huddersfield. If he can score goals in that team, he can score in ours. We're not going to get top names and these two are used to English football."

Ross Gandy wrote: "Jarrod Bowen all day long."

Other players to be mentioned several times were Luka Milivojević from Crystal Palace, and Karlan Grant from Huddersfield Town.

Here's a selection of readers' suggestions from our Facebook page.

Liam Kavanagh posted: "Will Hughes from Watford, highly versatile across the midfield."

Robert Fleming wrote: "Morelos and Defoe."

Martin Cairns wrote: "Personally I'd swap Shelvey for Milivojević of Crystal Palace. Will never happen though because he's over 30, but still hell of an underrated player i think."

Nathan Pyne commented: "I would love to see Milivojević from Crystal Palace."

Mark French wrote: "Jack Butland on loan for rest of season to give Martin Dubravka competition because I think he has got lazy and comfortable with no challenge for his position.

Dale Wighton wrote: "We’ve been linked with him so often but I’d take Tom Cairney and move Shelvey on"

Kyle Moore posted: "Joshua King from Bournemouth."

Kev Douglas commented: "Cantwell from Norwich."
