Newcastle United fans envious of Wrexham takeover and issue Ryan Reynolds plea

Newcastle United fans have been reacting to the extraordinary takeover going on at National League club Wrexham.

Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are to be the new owners of the Red Dragons after the Wrexham Supporters Trust (WST) voted to back the takeover.

An unbelievable 98.6% of the board's members voted in favour of the surreal takeover.

The WST released a statement, reading: "Subject to final agreement, league and FA confirmation - the RR McReynolds Company, LLC will take 100% control of Wrexham Football Club Limited from the WST.

Lee Ryder on if the takeover will ever be back on the table

"Both parties will now proceed with finalising the details of the takeover, and we will update Wrexham supporters as soon as we can."

The takeover of the non-league side could lead to £2m being invested in the club, and completely transform operations.

Like Wrexham have been, Newcastle looked set to be took over by a Saudi Arabian-backed consortium, but they ended up pulling out of the deal.

The Saudi consortium had initially agreed to buy the club for £300m from Mike Ashley in April, but by the end of July, the deal - much to Newcastle's fans' annoyance - ended up collapsing.

So, it's understandable that some Magpies supporters almost seem envious of non-league Wrexham after their surprising takeover from the two Hollywood stars.

Steve Bruce 's side return to Premier League action at the weekend, with high-flying Chelsea visiting St. James' Park on Saturday lunchtime.

As it stands, Newcastle are 13th in the top-flight table, and will be looking to bounce back from their recent 2-0 defeat down on the south coast to Southampton.

Bruce's side could make it back-to-back home victories after beating Everton on Tyneside earlier this month.
