Newcastle United fans disagree on merit of signing Dele Alli amid transfer links

Newcastle United fans have given their verdict on reports suggesting Dele Alli could be on his way out of Tottenham.

Daniel Levy is said to be open to allowing the former England international to leave in January following six years at the club, according to the Athletic.

Alli has struggled to earn a consistent starting spot in recent seasons under former manager Jose Mourinho and his successor Nuno Espirito Santo.

The 25-year-old started just 16 times in all competitions last season, and the attacking midfielder has been previously linked with a switch to Paris Saint-Germain to work again with Mauricio Pochettino.

Alli featured in the opening six Premier League matches of the new season, but was substituted at half-time of the derby defeat to Arsenal in September and has only appeared in a solitary Europa Conference League fixture since.

SPORT in Spain claimed earlier this month that Newcastle remain interested in the midfielder, having previously tried to sign the former MK Dons prospect ahead of joining Tottenham in 2015.

Alli is just the latest in a long line of names linked with a possible January switch to St James' Park, with the Magpies' new owners expected to invest in the mid-season window.

Here is how Newcastle fans reacted on our Chronicle - Newcastle United Facebook page to reports of Alli's potential availability:

Steve Astrop: "Great player but would need a very strong manager to cope with his ego...."

John Ball: "Good player who had great potential but has went backwards over last few years….still a player in him with right coach."

Morgan Burt: "Decent player but not sure he's the type we need in a relegation scrap."

Ron Kettlewell: "He can’t get into Spurs' average team so why would we want him. Maybe short term but definitely not long term."

Lee McGreevey: "Worth a punt, very good player on his day. I think he just needs a fresh start at a new club, look how the West Ham loan invigorated Lingard."

Ke Vino: "No thanks, peaked very early in his career and was finished about six years ago. Also, his head wanders."

David Wright : "People saying wouldn't take him, give ya heeds a shake, better than most of our squad."
