Newcastle United fans are all saying the same thing after victory over Everton

Newcastle United fans have breathed a sigh of relief after their victory over Everton.

The Magpies moved up to 10th with the victory over an in-form Toffees side, yet a late goal for the visitors left many hearts racing.

Steve Bruce's side were cruising at 2-0 thanks to Callum Wilson's second-half double but Dominic Calvert-Lewin's goal in stoppage time set up a nervy finish.

Newcastle eventually saw the game out to secure the three points and left many supporters breathing a sigh of relief.

There was also praise for the likes of Wilson and Bruce following some good form.

Wilson won praise from Roy Keane on Sky Sports for the way he won a penalty before dispatching it in the victory.

The attacker got in front of Andre Gomes before being tripped by the Everton player as they battled to win a ball into the box.

Some Everton fans felt the penalty decision was soft, but Keane backed the referee and said it was clever play by an in-form Wilson.

He said: “It’s soft, but I think it is a penalty as Wilson just said, he was clever.

"Poor defending from Everton, bad body positioning, but clever play from the striker who is enjoying his time up at Newcastle."

Manager Steve Bruce also spoke of his delight at the victory over an Everton side that have impressed many pundits so far this season.

"I was pleased overall," Bruce said after the game. "The players got it spot on.

"We defended well and had a threat overall. We deserved the victory against a really good Everton team."
