Just a few hours after Steve Harper's return to Newcastle United was confirmed, the club's new first-team coach got to work, watching the under-23s' Premier League International Cup clash against Benfica at Whitley Park.
Harper's been tasked with acting as a link between the first-team set-up and the academy as well as doing some coaching on the training pitches.
Newcastle's longest-serving player previously played under Steve Bruce at Hull City and has also worked with Bruce's assistant, Steve Agnew, and goalkeeping coach, Simon Smith. Another of Bruce's assistants, Stephen Clemence, was Hull's reserve-team manager during Harper's time at the KCOM Stadium.
