Newcastle United evening headlines with season ticket and Champions League prices, plus Maddison 'dialogue'

Here are the latest Newcastle United headlines for Friday, June 16, 2023.

Season ticket prices

Newcastle United have announced a rise on season ticket prices but the Magpies are still one of the cheapest clubs to watch in the Premier League.

United CEO Darren Eales thanked supporters for their loyal backing and spoke about improving the facilities at St James' Park. The Magpies have made a partial increase to prices compared to top-flight rivals like Nottingham Forest and Fulham who have cranked up prices by as high as 20% and 18%.

A club statement explained: "Season tickets will rise by a blended average of 3.3% with the club freezing season ticket prices for juniors, while prices for other categories will rise by 5%. Supporters on existing long-term price deals will continue to have their prices frozen for the upcoming campaign."

Champions League and cup tickets

ewcastle United have launched a new cup scheme for season ticket holders to help fans in the event that the Magpies reach another major domestic final.

Last season some season ticket holders missed out on a Wembley ticket for the Carabao Cup final showpiece after an attendance tally was used by the ticket office to decide who got tickets. But Newcastle have listened to fans and underlined their fan engagement policy.

With season ticket information issued today, fans can opt in to a cup scheme that will ensure there would be no disappointment if Newcastle make it back to Wembley in 2024.

United are also offering fans the chance to snap up their Champions League tickets for home games. Prices for the Champions League tickets are £55 for adults and £30 for concessions.

Maddison dialogue

Newcastle United remain in dialogue with James Maddison's representatives despite talk of Tottenham Hotspur cranking up their efforts to sign the England international.

Suggestions of a formal bid from Spurs yesterday were not accurate and Newcastle are being kept in the loop on developments with Maddison as Leicester City look to sell one of their star men. Maddison is with England until Monday night with Euro 2024 qualifying matches against Malta this evening and North Macedonia at Old Trafford to come.

It is Leicester's stubborn approach to Maddison's transfer fee that has held up negotiations so far. Spurs enquired about an initial joint bid for Maddison and Harvey Barnes but it amounted to an initial £50million plus add ons, and they would have to come in again with more for Leicester to stand up and take notice.

The Foxes are looking for more than £50million for Maddison knowing they must factor in a 15% sell on fee to Norwich City. For now Maddison - despite Leicester's relegation - is in good spirits.
