Newcastle United evening headlines with claims that price to buy the club has dropped

Non-essential staff have been put on furlough leave by the club as the impact of the coronavirus takes hold.

In an email sent to staff this morning by the club's managing director Lee Charnley, staff were informed that for now they did not have to come into work.

This includes some from the academy and scouting department.

Takeover talk has reemerged with reports in the Telegraph and The Athletic claiming that the PIF group of Saudi Arabia are a step closer to buying the club from Mike Ashley.

The Athletic claims that the price for the club is 'now considerably less than the £340m first reported.'

Here's our latest understanding.

The week saw the highlights of Newcastle's 6-2 win over Everton from 2002 doing the rounds, with Carl Cort scoring a lovely goal.

In an interview with Chronicle Live, Paul Montgomery, a scout at the club during the Sir Bobby Robson era, revealed that Cort was one of three on a list recommended to the manager.

Plans are still be put together regarding how the Premier League will re-start after the coronavirus.

One plan being suggested is that all teams could be put into self-isolation hotels on a campus in the Midlands, and the remainder of the games be played over several days.
