Newcastle United evening headlines with claims club and potential new owners handed Premier League papers

Newcastle United fans up and down the country have been cancelling their season tickets.

The sheer number who did so after Rafa Benitez was allowed to walk away from the club prompted the hierarchy to offer 10,000 free half-season tickets.

This boosted numbers inside St James' Park but still, some of those with season tickets are continuing to cancel.

We spoke to several fans to find out why they chucked their ticket in.

The governor of the PIF - the company leading the takeover of Newcastle - set up a UK company back in January.

This week brought fresh speculation that Mike Ashley's ownership of the club could soon be over - the Telegraph claims that the club and the potential new owners 'submitted paperwork to the Premier League last week.'

Neil Lennon is determined to keep his star striker Odsonne Edouard at Celtic amid reported interest from Newcastle United and Arsenal.

Lennon revealed that he'd like to get the 22-year-old to sign a year's extension.
