Newcastle United evening headlines as Terry is tipped to replace Bruce, Watts in line for squad place, Tuanzebe move green lit

Here are your Newcastle United evening headlines on Thursday, 29 July. Newcastle are now the only club in the Premier League still to add a new player to their 2021/22 squad after Chelsea announced the signing of goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli from Fulham.

John Terry tipped to replace Steve Bruce

Pundit Frank McAvennie has tipped Chelsea legend Terry to replace Steve Bruce in the St James' Park hotseat.

Villa confirmed the former England international defender left the club on Monday, with the 40-year-old outlining his desire to become a manager.

“I see him [Terry] at Newcastle and I honestly think he’ll be a damned good manager," commented McAvennie.

Kell Watts could make Newcastle's 2021/22 squad

Steve Bruce admits that Newcastle United young gun Kell Watts is giving him a welcome headache ahead of his final squad announcement.

The 21-year-old spent last season at Plymouth Argyle where he made 50 first-team appearances with the loan stint doing him the world of good.

"It is difficult to make a decision after two or three weeks but he has been good to watch," admited Bruce.

Norwich postpone fixtures in response to positive Covid-19 tests

Newcastle United are due to host Norwich City in their final pre-season fixture but the Canaries have now postponed two friendlies.

Norwich were due to take on Coventry City in a behind closed-doors friendly at Chesterfield's Technique Stadium on Wednesday night.

However, the Canaries confirmed in a statement earlier that day that the match had been cancelled as a 'precautionary measure' with positive Covid-19 test results recorded in the first-team group.

Varane Man. United signing hands Newcastle transfer boost

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has opened the door for a loan exit for Axel Tuanzebe with Newcastle United understood to be in pole position.

ChronicleLive revealed the Magpies are in pole position to agree a loan deal for the 23-year-old who made just nine starts in all competitions for the Red Devils last season.

The Red Devils boss told the club's website : “Of course, with Raphael coming in, I can see Axel going out [on loan], because I have Varane, Maguire, Lindelof and Eric Bailly and Phil Jones is coming back in."
