Newcastle United evening headlines as surprise Miguel Almiron boost possible, fans slam Joe Cole

Here are the Newcastle United evening headlines on Saturday, March 13.

Possible Almiron boost

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has revealed that Miguel Almiron has an outside chance of featuring in next weekend's huge clash with Brighton.

The Paraguay international has not featured for the Magpies since picking up a knee injury in last month's draw with Wolves.

Bruce has ruled out Callum Wilson for the trip down to the AMEX Stadium, as well as Allan Saint-Maximin, but Almiron could be involved.

"We will see how they progress of course," the Magpies manager told BBC.

"It's going to be a little too early for Callum, we can already dismiss that. Miggy is a different option.

Ashley message

Mike Ashley's message after Newcastle revealed details of the early stages of their arbitration case is being seen as a direct message to the Saudi PIF as speculation grows of a potential move for Inter Milan.

Ashley is continuing to pursue the takeover of the club even with a relegation fight currently happening and there has been no public comment from the PIF since last summer.

Sources close to the buying side are claiming that they could return, but in Italy, there are reports of interest in Inter from credible sources.

It's understood that he Italian giants reached out to the Saudis, - who remain in contact with PCP Capital Partners despite withdrawing their funding from the £305million deal which was struck almost 12 months ago.

Ashley thinks that sending a strong message to PIF is vital to ensure the deal remains a possibility.

Newcastle fans slam Cole for Bruce comments

Newcastle supporters have hit out at comments made by Joe Cole about manager Bruce.

The Magpies boss has come under big pressure after being dragged into a relegation scrap this season.

With just 10 games remaining of the campaign, Bruce's men are just two points above the relegation zone.

After Newcastle's 1-1 draw with Aston Villa on Friday night, BT Sport pundit Cole thinks Bruce would be on the Magpies' shortlist if he wasn't already their manager.

“If, for instance, they didn’t have a manager at the moment, Steve Bruce would be one of the first on the list that they’d be calling to get them out of this mess."

This has not sat well with the Tyneside club's fan base, who have hit out at the former Chelsea and Liverpool attacker.

One fan tweeted: "I'll have a pint of whatever Joe Cole is on. #nufc".

Another said: "Joe Cole 'Newcastle have got the right man'. I'm done, take me off this planet".
