Newcastle United evening headlines as Rob Lee has takeover concern, Thomas Muller's bizarre claim

Here are your Newcastle United evening headlines on Sunday, March 28.

'One thing always goes wrong'

There is one constant factor blocking a Newcastle takeover from being rubber-stamped - Mike Ashley.

That's according to former Magpies midfielder Rob Lee, who questioned the club's much-maligned owner during a guest appearance on Football Fancast.

Supporters have been subject to numerous false dawns in recent years - with the Bellagraph Nova Group, the Bin Zayed Group and Peter Kenyon all failing in their attempts to assume control at St James' Park.

Lee, who made more than 300 league appearances during a decade-long spell at Newcastle, remains somewhat dubious that Ashley even actually wants to sell up.

He said: "There always seems to be one thing that goes wrong with these takeovers, always.

"The one constant factor in all of this is Mike Ashley - he's involved in every failed takeover. So it makes me wonder how much he wants to sell the club."

Muller makes bizarre Newcastle claim

Thomas Muller made a bizarre reference to Newcastle when questioned about his Bayern Munich future.

The 31-year-old forward, who won the World Cup with Germany in 2014, has spent his entire playing career at the Bundesliga giants and current Champions League holders.

After two years in the international wilderness, Muller admits that he could be open to a move to the Premier League at some stage - but regional accents are not particularly his strong suit!

During an interview with the Times, he said: "I'm not fixed to this club. I have a special relationship.

"I love Bayern before I started playing for them, but when there is a situation where you have to decide maybe to play for a different club, it would be no shame and no problem at all.

"Maybe like with Thiago [Liverpool midfielder Alcantara]. I like it [England], but some cultures... speaking and such, special dialect, I don't understand everything. Newcastle? Ah, I don't know..."

Why Slovakia dropped goalkeeper

The reason why Martin Dubravka was dropped by Slovakia has been explained by manager Stefan Tarkovic - much to the relief of Newcastle fans.

After producing a man-of-the-match performance against Cyprus, the Newcastle number one was surprisingly left out during a frustrating 2-2 draw against Malta.

Amid the club's ongoing Premier League relegation battle, supporters were initially concerned that Dubravka might have suffered a recurrence of his ankle injury.

However, those fears have since been extinguished by his international manager.

Speaking post-match, Tarkovic said: "Martin Dubravka was still on the pre-match tactics in the line-up, but the stomach problems that were bothering him eventually prevented him from going into the match, he was not even on the list."
