Newcastle United evening headlines amid Mike Ashley's increasing takeover confidence

Here are your Newcastle United evening headlines on Monday, June 7.

Mike Ashley confident of a Newcastle United takeover reversal

While the country looks forward to the action getting under way in the delayed Euro 2020 tournament, the focus is very much on transfers and takeovers when it comes to Newcastle United.

The Magpies are drawing up plans for their summer recruitment ahead of the transfer window opening this week, with head coach Steve Bruce knowing he will have to work on a tight budget again.

United won't be alone in that, but of course everything could change if there was a major development with the takeover interest.

The Saudi-backed deal is still in limbo, but with Mike Ashley hoping his arbitration case can provide some positive news, fans can cling on to the chance of change at the club.

Chief Newcastle United writer Lee Ryder held a Q&A to answer your questions on the pressing issues at the club right now - here is the full transcript.

Fears over what arbitration defeat would mean for Newcastle United takeover

Newcastle United could be set for another '12 months of purgatory' if the club's arbitration against the Premier League isn't successful.

Speaking on The Everything is Black and White Podcast, Chronicle Live's Football Editor Mark Douglas shared his fear that a defeat in the arbitration case may see the subsequent anti-competition legal battle drag on until 2022.

LISTEN TO MARK DOUGLAS' END OF SEASON REVIEW

"The problem is, the positive vibes we've been getting off people [close to it] for so long have been just that - positive vibes - and whether that means there will be a change, I don't know.

"It's in the interest of a lot of people that this deal goes through - and it's in their interest that this thing keeps ticking along.

"What slightly worries me now, is that if arbitration doesn't work out then we know the next legal thing to come - this Court of Arbitration for Sport.

"That is going to be a long term case, and judging by what the legal experts tell us is that it could stretch into 2022 and that would be another year in purgatory.

"At that point, you want a resolution - you either say let's go and find someone else to buy it or you take it off the market and Ashley acts as a proper owner.

"I don't think that is what he is going to do, he will see it as 'I will keep going and try to get to the point the Saudis take over because he believes that is the right deal for Newcastle' but we now know that is such a high stakes game."

Kylian Mbappe's hilarious response when told he's been signed by Newcastle United

"It's not hot there," was the response of Paris St Germain and French star Kylian Mbappé after being told he has been signed for Newcastle United.

Sadly for Newcastle United supporters, Mbappe's move to Tyneside came on the Football Manager 2021, with his fellow French international Antoine Griezmann currently in charge of the Magpies on the popular football management simulation game.

Last month Griezmann took to social media to show his Newcastle side winning the Premier League, and this weekend he was filmed explaining the success he has had at St James' Park - winning five titles in one season.

That including the Premier League and Champions League - as Griezmann self-proclaimed 'what a coach - I am the god of English football.'

Sitting next to his Barcelona team-mate Ousmane Dembélé, he urged him to 'tell them', although Dembélé looked far from impressed.

The Barcelona star did finally tell Griezmann 'you have no more to prove'.

Griezmann then turned his attention to Mbappe.

"I have you in Newcastle, I bought you for €134m," he told Mbappe.

The PSG star responded as laughter sounded in the background: "Newcastle? It's not hot there!"
