Newcastle United evening headlines: Allardyce set for Magpies face off and Shearer makes Kane quip

A look at the latest Newcastle United evening headlines on Tuesday, May 2.

Sam Allardyce set for Newcastle reunion as Leeds turn to Premier League veteran for final games

Leeds United – like many clubs this season – find themselves in crisis. Currently sat 17th in the table, with only goal difference keeping them out of the drop zone, manager Javi Gracia seems to be heading for the exit door.

The man set to replace him… is none other than Sam Allardyce. The ex-Newcastle boss is on the cusp of becoming Leeds manager until the end of the season, in an aim to work his managerial magic and save Leeds from the drop.

He will have to work his magic in double-quick time however, with four tough fixtures remaining for Leeds, with games against Manchester City, Newcastle, West Ham and Spurs – making survival seem like an impossible task.

Rafa Benitez proves he still understands Newcastle United with Southampton victory prediction

Rafa Benitez predicted 'celebrations all over the city' after Newcastle United took one step closer to UEFA Champions League football after a big win over Southampton.

Newcastle collected their eighth victory from nine in the Premier League by coming from behind to beat rock bottom Southampton 3-1 at St James' Park on Sunday. The Magpies maintained their two-point lead over fourth-place Manchester United, who play their game in hand against fellow top four hopefuls Brighton at the Amex on Thursday night.

Callum Wilson scored twice either side of Theo Walcott's own goal, after Stuart Armstrong had fired the Saints into the lead before the break.

Newcastle training ground has exciting new features as facility is 'completely transformed'

Martin Dubravka has revealed that Newcastle United players feel 'much better' at the club's new-look training ground after the facility was 'transformed'.

Although Newcastle's owners still plan to build a new state of the art training base, modernisation work is continuing on the club's Benton facility in the interim to bring it up to standard after those at the top recognised it fell 'significantly below the Premier League and perhaps even Championship standards'. With each passing month, the training ground has started to open up since work first started last summer and you only have to look at the outside of the main building to see how much has changed.

The tired cream paint that symbolised the Ashley era has been replaced by black panelling and floor to ceiling windows have brought more natural light into the new canteen. By the time the multi-million pound project is completed, the players will have access to hydrotherapy and plunge pools, and they have already been making use of a host of new features, including an improved gym, a lounge where the old treatment room used to be, a modern 30-seat presentation room, an expanded physio room and a bigger dressing room.

Gary Neville issues Newcastle United Champions League prediction after 'deserved' season

Gary Neville expects Newcastle United and Manchester United to secure UEFA Champions League qualification for next season.

Newcastle boast a nine-point lead over fifth-place Liverpool having played an identical amount of games as Jurgen Klopp's side. Manchester United trail Newcastle by two points but could replace them in third by beating Brighton in their game in hand at the Amex on Thursday night.

Although Neville doesn't expect either side to stumble during the Premier League run-in, he has warned that there are still "difficult games" ahead.

Alan Shearer's Newcastle United Harry Kane quip amid goalscoring run

Alan Shearer has joked about the prospect of Harry Kane breaking his all-time Premier League top goal scorer record in a Newcastle United shirt.

Kane moved level with Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney on 208 goals after scoring his 25th Premier League goal of the season in Tottenham Hotspur's 4-3 defeat at Liverpool on Sunday.

The England captain is still 53 goals shy of surpassing Shearer's astonishing record of 260. However, at just 29 years of age, Kane will view that milestone as a realistic target.

Newcastle United edge closer to major sponsor deal ahead of Fun88 swansong

Newcastle United are edging ever closer to one of the most exciting and lucrative sponsorship deals in the club's history as discussions continue behind the scenes.

Having accepted that they are locked in a deal with North-West based kit manufacturers Castore potentially until the 2025/26 season, with the brand that look after Andy Murray keen to stay on Toon shirts, United chiefs switched their attention to the main shirt sponsor last year. They were able to agree that Fun88 ended their association with Newcastle a year early with the arrangement with the Chinese betting firm worth less than £8million a year.

And that leaves the path clear for a major sponsor deal, United are working on and hope to update fans with in the coming weeks. It's understood that there is more than one bidder vying for the right to see their company emblazoned on Newcastle shirts.

Newcastle United feel they already have future star who could save Dan Ashworth millions

Dan Ashworth and his team are hard at work finding the best up-and-coming talent for Newcastle United to try and purchase - but the Magpies feel they already have a potential gem in their midst with local lad Lewis Miley.

The teenage sensation celebrated his 17th birthday in style of Monday, signing his first professional contract with Newcastle after impressing club staff, Eddie Howe and first-team stars in recent months. Miley's stock has risen exponentially this season after taking part in December's Diriyah Season Cup victory against Al-Hilal and featuring on the bench for the trip to Bournemouth in February.

Miley, whose brother Jamie has captained the Under-18s in recent years, is seen as one of the brightest prospects currently plying their trade in the Magpies' youth setup. Chronicle Live understands Howe and Newcastle staff feel the midfielder will be a Premier League star in years to come should he continue to progress as he has in recent years.
