Newcastle United 'enter' John Swift transfer race, bizarre Joe Willock and Arsenal claim

Here are the latest Newcastle United transfer rumours for Monday, September 20.

Newcastle enter race to sign Swift

The Magpies are reportedly interested in signing Reading star John Swift, who has started the season in superb style.

After scoring seven goals in his first eight Championship matches, Swift has attracted attention from a whole host of clubs and Newcastle have been added to that list.

According to Football League World, Aston Villa, Brentford and Sheffield United are also keen on the midfielder who has been a consistent performer for The Royals over the years.

Newcastle could arguably do with someone of Swift's box-to-box ability as Jonjo Shelvey and Jeff Hendrick appear to be out of Steve Bruce's thinking currently due to injury and form.

Munoz arrives in England

Santiago Munoz has finally landed in England to complete his move to the Magpies from Santos Laguna.

According to ESPN Mexico, the player spent ten days in quarantine in Madrid and only now was able to reach his final destination.

He is supposedly going to join up with Newcastle's Under 23s side at the start of next week as he looks to further his development and adapt to the English game.

Munoz is joining the club on an 18-month loan deal but Steve Bruce's side have the option to make it permanent at the end of the deal.

What Arteta told Willock before Newcastle transfer

Joe Willock completed the £25m switch to Newcastle this summer after leaving his boyhood club, Arsenal.

Having spent the second half of last season on Tyneside, Bruce wanted to sign the 22-year-old on a permanent deal and he got his man on August 13 and has played five times since.

But upon his departure from the Gunners, reporter Paul Brown has alleged that Arteta and Arsenal technical director Edu told Willock completely different things ahead of his move to St James' Park last month.

While Arteta insisted Willock was still wanted at the Emirates Stadium, Edu relayed the total opposite information a matter of days later.

Brown told GMS: "I was told that Willock was invited into Arteta's office over the summer and told you're a great player, we really believe in you, you could be the future of the club and I can see you in this set role doing all these different things for the club.

"Three days later, he was called into Edu's office and told he was going."
