Newcastle United Eddie Howe shock for ex-Clyde and Hamilton man as he's thrust back into hotseat

Former Clyde and Hamilton ace Graeme Jones will lead Newcastle United into a Premier League match one last time after Eddie Howe's positive Covid-19 test.

Jones had been caretaker boss of the Magpies following the dismissal of Steve Bruce, and Howe took over as manager earlier this month.

His first game in charge was due to be against Brentford this afternoon, but Jones and fellow assistant head coach Jason Tindall will now lead the team in-person.

Newcastle haven't won a league game this season and are in a fight to remain in England's top flight, despite a recent buyout from PIF - which is the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia.

Jones joined Clyde in 2005 before finishing his playing career at Hamilton in 2006,

He then was named Accies assistant manager to Billy Reid.

Howe said: "I have been, and will be, in constant communication with my coaching team and the players.

"I know they will be giving everything on and off the pitch."
