Newcastle United defender Paul Dummett is believed to have suffered a fresh injury blow.
The left-back has sustained a hamstring problem during his quest to return to full fitness after a summer muscle problem picked up in pre-season.
It caps a miserable 2020 for Dummett after he hobbled off in the 1-1 draw at Wolverhampton Wanderers in January with a tendon injury that ended his season.
Despite recovering by the time lockdown had ended he learned that the Premier League’s rehashed rule book during the pandemic would not allow him to regain a place in the squad.
Dummett had played in Newcastle Under-23's clash with Fulham last month but now faces assessment in the treatment room and could potentially miss the rest of the year.
It means Dummett could have missed almost a full year of Premier League action.
